Sick and tired of feeling sick and tired?

With Depression we can believe that we are both hopeless and helpless.

But hang on for a moment - read on and maybe you will think again.

First and foremost, always - please - see your Doctor if you are feeling really low in spirits. You may well find that your GP has helpful medications that can give you the lift that you so badly need and that descending spiral of gloomy thoughts can be reversed with a simple prescription and his expert advice.

Research tells us that our thoughts may be at the root of depression. You see, our thoughts do not go unnoticed by the brain and body. And, believe it or not, depression can be a result of thoughts that activate a memory in the brain, causing it to secrete the chemicals (neuropeptides) that result in depression. Often this memory activates similar emotional memories, causing them to release more depression-causing chemicals into the body. And to complete the circle, chemical depression may cause gloomy thoughts. Oh dear - you see how we easily can spiral down

So although depression is chemical it is also a result of the thoughts we think and the length of time we dwell on painful feelings.

So when we are faced with difficult life events, we can let the emotions get a firm grip on us and then we seem to let ourselves feel there are no solutions and allow ourselves to go into a hopeless state.

When we are told that your depression is chemical, this gives us a reason to feel hopeless and accept drugs as the only solution. Once this happens we might well be doomed to go down the spiral of darkness and gloom.

One alternative is to focus on solutions and possibilities. People who are depressed feel they have no possibilities for change. They have no idea how anything could ever change, and the cycle is ever expanding as the brain is forced to open old emotional memories and flood the body with chemical messengers that cause depression.

However, even if you are on medication at the moment, I can help you to break that seemingly endless cycle. I can help you rise out of the mud and reach for the stars
